This general-purpose NMR facility supports a diverse range of
natural products, medicinal chemistry and metabolism
applications. One-Minute NMR is installed on a dedicated
Bruker 400 MHz system and is used routinely to process samples
from a group of about twenty medicinal chemists. The aggregation of
synthesis confirmation samples from an entire department keeps the system busy processing
hundreds of 1D and 2D samples every month.

This research group demonstrated elucidation of thirteen
steroids extracted from fifty fireflies and cleaned up with
HPLC. The amounts of steroid in each HPLC fraction,
40–150 nmol, were below the detection levels for
conventional NMR with Shigemi tubes, resulting in a
threefold improvement in signal-to-noise ratio. The active
volume of the flow cell is 3µL, compared with 0.5 mL in a
conventional probe. A complete suite of proton and
correlation spectra were acquired using a MicroFlow NMR
probe and a Manual Injector Module. Assignment data
and comparisons with Shigemi tubes are available.
